Description

ISOVER Steel Frame Batts have been specially developed for use with steel frame construction. They are fixed externally to the steel frame, either as the sole insulation in a warm frame application, or in a hybrid application in conjunction with other Isover products installed within the metal frame. ISOVER Steel Frame Batts have been tested and approved for use in Metsec steel framing systems, providing exceptional acoustic performance supported by test reports.

Standards

All Isover products are manufactured under Quality Management Standard EN ISO 9001:2000.

Fire Performance ISOVER Steel Frame Batts are manufactured from inherently non-combustible materials making them completely fire safe and achieving a Euro class A1 fire rating when classified in accordance with BS EN 13501-1. They will not compromise fire safety with respect to the risk of fire spread in wall cavities.

Durability

ISOVER Steel Frame Batts are made from rot-proof non- hygroscopic materials, which will not accelerate corrosion of steel, copper or aluminum and which will not sustain vermin or promote the growth of mould, fungi or bacteria.

Ecological Information

ISOVER Steel Frame Batts are made from glass mineral wool, one of the most environmentally friendly materials available.

Sustainable

ISOVER Steel Frame Batts are manufactured from silica sand, the earth's most abundantly occurring mineral and a sustainable, infinite resource.

Recyclable

Approximately 80% of the raw material used in the production of ISOVER Steel Frame Batts is recycled, far more than any comparable product. The recycled material can be post-consumer glass (from housing generation projects) or waste glass from bottle and flat glass manufacture, which would otherwise go to landfill.

Environmental

The manufacturing process does not use or contain CFC's, HCFC's or other damaging gases - nor has it ever. In addition, the unique resilience of ISOVER glass mineral wool enables high compression packing which means more insulation in a smaller space than almost any other insulation. The result is better vehicle utilization, reducing the environmental impact of transportation.

Eco-Homes/Sustainable Homes

ISOVER Steel Frame Batts achieve full credit under Eco-Homes performance for zero Ozone Depletion Potential (ODP) and a Global Warming Potential (GWP) of less than 5.

Prevention of fire spread in concealed cavities

ISOVER Cavity Barriers have been specifically developed to provide up to 100 minutes fire resistance to the spread of flames down concealed cavities.

For steel frame constructions, they are available in self-adhesive grade for easy attachment to the foil facing of the insulation.

Acoustic Performance on Internal Load Bearing Walls

Steel Frame party/separating walls meeting Building Regulations Part E 2003 performance requirements for England and Wales.

The following wall constructions are listed in the Part E Robust Detail Pattern Book and do not require site testing for new build houses and flats. However, if these constructions are used in rooms for residential purposes (hotels, nursing homes, student accommodation) then site testing of the finished construction is still required.

Robust Detail E-WS-1 For use in lightweight steel frame houses and flats/ apartments. The illustration shows the appropriate Isover and Gyproc products which match the generic descriptions.
Wall lining of 2 or more layers of Gyproc plasterboard (total mass 22kg/m2) both sides, joints staggered.

Typical Installation Details

ISOVER Steel Frame Batts are typically sandwiched between the outer face of the stud framework and brick tie channels and secured by screw fixing through the tie channels into the stud flanges.

The brick tie channels should be fixed with stand-off screws at typically 225mm min, 450mm max, vertical centers(subject to design considerations) through the insulation into the stud flanges. The screws should not be over tightened as this could damage the under-head rubber seal.

There is a factory applied foil facing to one side of ISOVER Steel Frame Batts and the batts must be installed with this side facing the outside of the building. The reverse side of the batts is faced with a glass tissue for improved rigidity and handling and the tissue-faced side faces inwards.

All horizontal and vertical joints between the insulation batts must be sealed with self-adhesive aluminum tape. The batts can easily be cut with a sharp knife to fit closely around edges and apertures and all exposed edges must also be protected with aluminum tape.

At stud positions without brick tie channels, ISOVER Steel Frame Batts should be retained onto the frame with screw fixings through plastic mushrooms at approximately 600mm vertical centersonto the studs.
